BBC America announces air dates for Doctor Who.

I love you BBC America. I thought all hope was lost with the end of 30 Rock and that damn AMC pushing Mad Men back to August, but now, thanks to you wonderful people, my summer tv viewing is really starting to look up. Here is the latest:

  • The new Doctor Who specials will begin airing starting with the Christmas special on June 27th. Entertainment Weekly has a short clip here.
  • The Doctor’s new assistant has also been announced. She is Karen Gillan, who you might remember from “The Fires of Pompeii” episode. Matt Smith is the new Doctor.
  • SciFi Wire has the newest Torchwood trailer, which starts airing this July.
  • SF Universe has the lowdown on what the hell Being Human is all about. It’s a strange premise, but from the reviews I’ve read from people who have already seen it in the UK, I will give it a chance. The series begins on July 28th.

Now if they would just bring back Mistresses for another season, all would be right in the world.

Don’t say it if you don’t mean it…

“MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) — An instructor at the Connecticut Police Academy has been charged with disorderly conduct after he allegedly responded literally to a co-worker’s “bite me” remark. Francis Woodruff, a former Waterbury police captain, was arraigned Tuesday and released on a promise to appear in court. He was accused of biting the arm of 42-year-old Rochelle Wyler, a license and applications analyst at the academy, on April 24.”

Ask and you shall receive I guess.

Call me crazy…

Ok…anyone playing Plants vs Zombies notice that the Michael Jackson Back Up Dancer/Zombie looks a little like Chris “The Birdman” Anderson from the Denver Nuggets? Look…here’s some photos for comparison:

Am I right? Anyone? Anyone? Maybe it’s just me.

Zombies take over Cannes.

colin6

One  of the films generating alot of buzz at the Cannes Film Festival this year is Colin, a zombie pic told from the zombie’s point of view and was made for only $70. Check out the review over at  Fatally Yours.

I don’t think I could handle all the shaky camera work, but it does sound interesting. It is a shining example of what a filmmaker can do with a good product and little money. Distributors are already fighting for the rights, so the filmmaker is about to become a very rich man indeed. Hope he shares some of it with all the volunteers that made the film happen.

Meet George Fan.

george_and_zombie

I posted about it before, but with all the new reviews for Plants vs Zombies, I thought I would post this interview with the game’s creator, George Fan.

This is the perfect zombie game for someone like me, I tried to play Left 4 Dead but kept going in circles, repeatedly saying,”Ready guys?” I’m amazed my team didn’t shoot me in the first 5 minutes. I can handle throwing watermelons and shooting pea pods at the zombies alot better.

Sandbox Threads.

I have a friend who will be having a baby shortly so I was browsing thru the interwebs trying to find non-baby baby shirts. You know, nothing too cutesy or with icky statements like “Boob man” written on it. I found a very cool site called Sandbox Threads. They have everything from Stephen Colbert baby tees to Elvis onesies. They have adult sizes too so check them out.

Another reason I think Sandbox Threads rock is because I found this video on their blog. Watch it and be blown away by the creativity and time it took to put this all together:

Update: Apparently everyone knows about the guy who created these videos. I thought I was an internet junkie, how did I miss this?

I just hope they don’t eat mice in this version.

Sci Fi Wire has a couple of clips from the new V series. Not bad, but I don’t buy it for a second that if a UFO landed on our planet and an alien gave a whole “We come in peace” speech that everyone would applaud at the end of it. Maybe it’s because the alien speaking is hot?

Watch the clips here.

Zombie ants!

This is disturbing and fascinating all at the same time. Texas officials will be turning fire ants into zombies as a way to control the pests this summer:

“The fly attacks foraging fire ants, injecting eggs into the ant with a needle-like appendage. As the larvae mature, they attack and destroy the brain, causing the ant to wander aimlessly like a zombie. After two weeks or so, the ant’s head falls off and a new fly emerges, ready to attack other ants.”

See? Awesome and freaky. Just like zombies. Read the rest of the article over at the LA Times here.

That kooky world of fashion.

DevilWearsPradaMerylStreep

60 Minutes had an interesting interview lastnight with Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. By interesting, I mean that Morley Safer took some wonderfully sarcastic digs at the fashion world and talked about the gaggle of high fashion girls that live to serve her majesty. It was very Devil Wears Prada. I do wonder why 60 Minutes had Morley interview Anna Wintour. Wouldn’t Anderson Cooper have been a better choice? He seems like a man who understands fashion. Maybe they wanted a snarky interview. Well played 60 Minutes.

TV Squad has the clip here.
