Andy Hallett

andy1Sad news Angel fans, SciFi Wire reports that  Andy Hallett, or Lorne the Demon, passed away at only 33.

“A Massachusetts native, Hallett appeared in more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff series between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs (“Lady Marmalade” and “It’s Not Easy Being Green”) on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.

Hallett’s green demon character assisted Angel (David Boreanaz) and his team in the investigation of underworld mysteries while serving as the host and headliner at a demon bar.”

He made every scene he was in better. Watch one of my favorite moments here.

When models go bad.

Does anyone remember when America’s Next Top Model used to be watchable? Before Miss Tyra decided wrapping models in meat was a fierce idea(you know I couldn’t post about ANTM without using the word fierce right)? Now it’s all about seeing just how nutty Tyra will be this week, or seeing just how orange Mr. Jay can get. I’m only bringing this all up because I have a site I think you would enjoy called, Television Without Pity. They do the best recaps of ANTM. A must when you are bored at work and need to burn some time off the clock. Check out this week’s recap here.

Someone needs to spell check…

cat_typingMy TV is getting a little old and the sound is not the best, so occasionally I turn on the close captioning. So today I am watching Martha Stewart and a guest on the show ask’s Martha her favorite drink and the close caption gives Martha’s answer as:

“Kozzma poll tin”

This happens all the time. Seriously, who is typing these things? Do they get bored and decide periodically to start messing with the viewer? Man, there it goes again:

Martha just asked an audience member if she had a compost heap in her backyard. Here is the closed caption translation:

Do you hav have a come post hapy back?

I feel sorry for people who really rely on this stuff. My theory is that budget cuts have forced them to use animal labor. Jeez.

Sherlock Holmes Poster revealed.

sherlockposter1The new poster for Sherlock Holmes was revealed at Showest last week. The movie won’t be opening for awhile but it looks like it’s going to be truer to the original Arthur Conan Doyle’s original vision of Sherlock Holmes. Slings and Arrows

slingsI was thinking about the trip I am planning to take to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival shortly, and it made me remember one of my all time favorite series, Slings and Arrows. If you haven’t seen this I advise you get it as soon as possible, lock yourself in your house, turn off the phone, grab your favorite snacks and hit play.

This is a Canadian series that goes behind the scenes at a fictional Shakespeare Festival. It stars an actor I adore, Paul Gross, who you may remember(or not) from Due South and Mark McKinney from Kids in the Hall. Oh and just for the guys who may be reading this, Rachel McAdams, the hot girl from Wedding Crashers is in it too. Each season covers one production from start to finish, the first season is Hamlet and the last season is King Lear. Shakespeare fan or not, I think you will love this series.

When Good Faces Go Bad.

rupertnewfaceOk. So I was watching Rachael Ray yesterday and her guest was Rupert Everett who stars in Blythe Spirit on Broadway with Angela Landsbury, and they were talking about how wonderful it is to work with Angela…and how he loves Broadway…and all I could think thru the whole interview was…

I have no idea when he did this but I want the old Rupert back. He was every girl’s gay crush, the one we all hoped would hop over to our side of the pond. I don’t know what he can do to change back but he needs to do it fast.

Here’s a side by side comparison of Rupert’s two faces:rupert2

Also, and I don’t know why, but for some reason, he reminds me of this little guy:beak

Better Off Ted

betterofftedAnyone in the mood for a truly funny new series and I’m not referring to this mess.

Better Off Ted is a little nutty, full of quirky characters and completely hilarious. Kind of like Arrested Development, which of course, by saying that means I have officially given it the Kiss of Series Death. So please watch this show before it gets cancelled and replaced by a rerun of Dancing with the Stars.

Den of Geek has a good list of series that were cancelled way too soon.

Go Panthers!

fnl2Good news Friday Night Lights fans, the show has been renewed for two more seasons. Unfortunately it will be without Adrianne Palicki and Minka Kelly. Makes sense though since their characters are moving on to college and this show is supposed to center around the high school. I’m happy as long as Coach Taylor is still around.

David Simon begins filming…

David Simon has begun filming his latest, Treme, which takes place in New Orleans following Katrina. It won’t be picked up until HBO sees the pilot so keep your fingers crossed. He has lined up a stellar group of writers and cast for this project and I am really excited to see the stories they tell. Click here to read more about the series.

On a related note, if you want to listen to a masterpiece of music that truly sums up the emotions in New Orleans following the hurricane, buy Terence Blanchard’s, A Tale of God’s Will(A Requiem for Katrina). I can’t listen to “Funeral Dirge” without thinking back to the haunting images from Spike Lee’s, When the Levees Broke.
