Emmy nominees announced.

Not a whole lot of surprises with this year’s Emmy nominations. I am happy to see Gabriel Byrne getting a nod for In Treatment, it’s an excellent series if you haven’t watched it yet. Also nice to see Dexter, MadMen and Breaking Bad receive nominations. Too bad Battlestar was ignored yet again, I guess Emmy voters don’t watch sci fi shows. Their loss.

I also had high hopes that Jeffrey Donovan or Bruce Campbell would get noticed for Burn Notice but no, let’s give yet another award to Tony Shaloub for Monk. Ugh

Click here if you want to see all of this year’s nominees.

Update: I should make a correction, BSG did get some nods, but it was in the technical category and one for the webisode. I wanted them to get nominated for the biggees, best actor, drama series, etc…

The Fan and The Flower

This is one of my favorite short animated films. It’s called “The Fan and The Flower”, featuring Portland animator, Bill Plympton and narrated by Paul Giamatti. It’s a sweet but sad little love story and makes me feel guilty everytime I kill a plant.

The Warriors: Jailbreak

For all The Warriors movie fans that keep finding my site, the first of a four-part comic book series, “The Warriors: Jailbreak,” is about to be released. The story picks up where the 1979 cult action/thriller ends. The first issue was written by Portland film editor, Erik Henriksen. All the cool people live here.

Another pointless sequel.

Wanted was on cable the other night so I thought, “Hey, the previews had looked interesting, maybe I should watch it?” Big, big, BIG MISTAKE. I’m sorry, maybe you liked it, but I thought it was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Even a hot, tattooed Angie couldn’t save this movie. The dialogue was lame, the action sequences were copied from several other movies and Morgan Freeman looked bored through most of it.

So why dear lord are they making a sequel? Also, how do you bring Angie back from the dead for this stupid sequel? Is this going to be like a soap opera death? Will she come back as her twin? Brought back to life using some cutting edge medical procedure? I know, maybe she’ll come back as a zombie?

Worth the wait?

Did you catch True Blood lastnight? It definitely made up for making us wait a week for a new episode. The birthday party scene was insane with all the sex and dirt eating and Maryann growing claws. Neato. I’ve found some True Blood links to keep you from doing any actual work at the office today:

The LA Times has a recap of last night’s episode and USA Today thinks True Blood is one of TV’s true joys.

TV Guide talks to Michelle Forbes(Maryann) and asks her about the vibrating during sex thing.

E! Online’s Must List Live debates who is the hotter vampire…Eric or Bill? I say Eric. Discuss.

Find out what music was used in the show at True-Blood.net.

New Torchwood clip, Mistresses and more…

Here’s some goodies for BBC America Fans:

Another clip from Torchwood: Children of Earth is up over at SciFi Wire. Click here to watch.

Mistresses will definitely be back for a final season which will wrap up all the loose ends. Unfortunately, the last season will consist of just 4 hour long episodes and won’t air until 2010.

Wired has a gallery of all the actors who have played Doctor Who here.

For those of you lucky bastards attending Comic Con, here’s when and where you’ll find David Tennant, Russell T. Davies and other BBC celebrities.

How anti social people spend their weekend.

While most of you enjoyed the beautiful sunshine this weekend, I played hermit and watched a Burn Notice marathon, Heathers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer…the actual movie not the series.

I don’t know what part I love the most about Buffy the movie, the terrible acting, the vampires with horrible pancake makeup, the Valley Girl dialogue, Rutger Hauer?? Perhaps I love it because it has one of the best death scenes ever by Pee Wee Herman:

Oh yeah and you remember how Winona Ryder keeps throwing it out that there will be a Heathers 2? Apparently, Winona’s just making it up in her head. Thank you lord, I cannot take another remake or sequel. Although, now that the original director and writer of the film are discussing Heathers again, it could still happen right?

Buffy vs Edward

Thanks to Oregonian writer, Kristi Turnquist, for this link to one of the best video mash ups EVER:

Creator Jonathan McIntosh explains what drove him to create it:

Buffy vs Edward is essentially an answer to the question “What Would Buffy Do?” My re-imagined story was specifically constructed as a response to Edward, and what his behavior represents in our larger social context for both men and women. More than just a showdown between The Slayer and the Sparkly Vampire, it’s also a humorous visualization of the metaphorical battle between two opposing visions of gender roles in the 21ist century.”

I can’t stop watching this clip, it really speaks to all the problems I had with Twilight and it reminded me just how awesome Buffy was. Click here to read the rest of the article.
