Thumbs up.

Ben Lyons AND Ben Mankiewicz

The two Bens are out! Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz will not be returning to At the Movies. That show was almost unwatchable when it first debuted. As the negative reviews started pouring in, Disney-ABC tweaked it but it was still awful. Thankfully, someone finally came to their senses and brought former guest reviewers, Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune, and A.O. Scott from The New York Times on board to salvage what once used to be a great program.

Read the articles here and here about the reasons for the change and to learn more about Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott. The new season debuts on September 5th.

Mad Men Mad Men Mad Men.

christina

The new season of Mad Men is so close, I can almost taste it. It tastes a little like an Old Fashioned. Until August 16th, here are a few things to keep you busy:

Check out Christina Hendricks new photos from her Esquire interview.

If you can’t live like Mad Men, you can at least drink like one.

Create a Mad Men avatar. I’ve had no luck creating mine, I think AMC hates me.

Meet the minor female characters of Mad Men, along with pretty pictures for all the men.

Sesame Street will do a parody of Mad Men on November 10th to mark their 40th anniversary. Me and my mom are currently creating The Wire, Sesame Street style, in our heads. Here’s our cast so far:

 Big Bird: Prop Joe

Grover: Omar

Elmo: That bastard Kennard

Bert and Ernie: Carv and Herc

The Count: The Greek

Zoe: Snoop

Any ideas who should be Marlo? Stringer Bell?

Get a grip.

jack

I was upset like everyone else about the death of a key character on Torchwood, but apparently some people are REALLY UPSET.

Here are a couple of related links:

Den of Geek makes the case of why the newly dead key character needs to stay dead.

Russell T. Davies isn’t helping things with comments like this.

WARNING: Spoilers contained in those links in case you haven’t finished watching Children of Earth yet, and honestly people, let’s get caught up so we can gossip about it.

Vampires in vogue.

eweekly

If you love all things vampire, then you want to pick up this week’s Entertainment Weekly. Inside you’ll find EW’s picks for the 20 greatest vampires, including, of course, that damn sparkly one.  There are also brief interviews with some of the most popular authors of vampire fiction, including Anne Rice and Charlaine Harris.

I thought that Laurell Hamilton, author of the Anita Blake series, came off as a little full of herself in her interview:

EW: What are your thoughts on the Twilight phenomenon?

L.H.: Stephanie Meyer has come and she’s taken the genre that I sort of pioneered.

Really? I’m pretty sure that Anne Rice(The Vampire Chronicles) or L.J. Smith(Vampire Diaries) might take issue with that statement. I won’t even start on how Ms. Hamilton has destroyed what started out as a pretty cool vampire hunter series with her last few books.

Moving on…click here to see a clip from tomorrow’s True Blood. It features that dreamy viking, Eric Northman. Enjoy.

Good news Earthlings!

futurama

Everyone breathe a big sigh of relief, the orignial voices for Futurama will be back on the job. From cast member Maurice LaMarche:

“Officially, my deal is done,” LaMarche said Friday in an exclusive interview with SCI FI Wire. “While I can’t speak for the rest of the cast, I see no reason not to expect all the others will do the same by day’s end.”
