Megashark vs Giant Squid Tonight!

I hope no one has plans tonight because the SyFy(still hate that name) network has taken care of this evening’s entertainment with…

megashark

Here I thought I was going to have to go buy the DVD. I love you, SyFy Saturday Movies!

Via Wikipedia:

“The film features veteran actor Lorenzo Lamas and singer/songwriter Deborah Gibson as part of its cast, and was originally titled Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus 3D, but “3D” was stricken from the title when the studio failed to acquire adequate funding for 3-D film.”

Shocking I know. Who wouldn’t want to fund this gem of a film right? The best part is that Ms. Gibson thinks there may be a sequel:

“Following the buzz generated by the release of the film’s trailer, Gibson hinted on an interview that a sequel may be in the works. “Because God knows what else is in the ocean”, she said. “I thought maybe a seahorse? Maybe a 500-foot (150 m) lobster would be good. But yes, there is the potential for a sequel, and I would absolutely love it.”

Once a vampire…

eric

It’s a bit of typecasting, but Cam Gigandet(Twilight) and Stephen Moyer(True Blood), have been cast in the new vampire film Priest. The movie, starring Paul Bettany and Maggie Q, follows a priest (Paul Bettany) who rebels against the church to avenge a group of murderous vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Gigandet’s character helps the priest because he is in love with his niece, while Moyer plays the brother of the clergyman.

Here’s some other True Blood items of interest:

Ed Quinn who was sadly blown to bits as Stan the Vampire, has been added to the cast of Mischa Barton’s new series, The Beautiful Life, which will air in the fall on The CW. Read the article here.

MTV shares some fun facts about Alexander Skarsgard(Eric Northman) in honor of his 33rd birthday.

New trailer for The Wolfman.

Wolfman_wolf

It’s not coming out until February 2010, but Universal has released the trailer for The Wolfman. It looks pretty good and scary but I’m not too sure about Benicio Del Toro. He definitely looks the part, but his acting in the clip seemed a little bland. Benecio is surrounded by a fantastic cast, including Hugo Weaving, who is amazing in just about everything he is in, so I remain hopeful. Click here to see a few images from the film and here to watch the clip over at Yahoo! Movies.

I buy it for the articles.

I debated buying the magazine. Could I handle the shame? The embarrassment? Would I see someone I know as I was buying it? I hesitantly put the magazine on the counter.

Cashier(looking at the magazine cover): “Whoa.”

Me: “Yea, I know. But I’m not buying it for the cover.”

Cashier: “Wow.”

Me: “I’m buying it for the Fall movie previews. Definitely not because of the cover.”

Cashier: “Robert Downey I could see on the cover, but not them.”

Me: “I’m going to just rip the cover off when I go home!”

Cashier: “Uh huh.”

I am not kidding you, I almost tossed The New Yorker in with my purchase to hide the EW. It was like buying 15 things you don’t need to hide the one condom box you were purchasing. I can’t wait for my subscription to start so I can avoid awkward conversations with bookstore employees over things like this:

Thumbs up.

Ben Lyons AND Ben Mankiewicz

The two Bens are out! Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz will not be returning to At the Movies. That show was almost unwatchable when it first debuted. As the negative reviews started pouring in, Disney-ABC tweaked it but it was still awful. Thankfully, someone finally came to their senses and brought former guest reviewers, Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune, and A.O. Scott from The New York Times on board to salvage what once used to be a great program.

Read the articles here and here about the reasons for the change and to learn more about Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott. The new season debuts on September 5th.
