Latest Stringer news…

elba2

Idris Elba is in negotiations to star in a film version of the Vertigo/DC comic ‘The Losers’. His co-star would be Jeffrey Dean Morgan who you know from Watchmen but I know as the hot but troubled father from Supernatural.

On a side note, does Idris ever take a bad photo? I think we all know the answer to that question. Hell. No.

Because I went a whole day without a Wire post…

carcettiSo Aidan Gillen is in a new movie opening this weekend. Have you seen the previews? Looks like the detective vs criminal story we’ve seen more than a few times. I think this post over at Indyweek.com summarizes my thoughts perfectly:

12 ROUNDS—Pro wrestler John Cena makes the leap from the ring to the big screen in this tale about a thief/detective rivalry. Expect thoughtful dialogue, artistic production and a moving philosophical statement about the vague nature of morality. Or not. With Aidan Gillen, best known as Mayor Carcetti on The Wire. Rated R.”

Hey, does anyone remember Mayor Carcetti in this movie. Still one of my favorites.

Melissa Leo has signed on to David Simon’s next project, Treme, which will start filming late this year. Clarke Peters(Lester Freamon) and Wendell Pierce(Detective Bunk) have already signed on. The wait is gonna kill me.

One more Wire alum…last one I swear.

cutty1Ok you probably all know this already but I just flipped the channels and Chad L. Coleman(aka: Dennis “Cutty” Wise) is on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and for you fellow BG geeks…Stephanie Jacobsen(aka Kendra Shaw) is in it too! It’s almost too much to take! So say we all! Ok…I’m done.

Check out this pretty cool Q & A that took place at the Bagdad Theater in Portland, Oregon with Katie Sackoff and my favorite radio duo Cort & Fatboy here.

Speaking of The Wire…

elbaDid anyone watch last night’s The Office with Idris Elba(aka Stringer Bell)? He looked pretty much the same as he did on The Wire with his business suit, glasses and briefcase. I kept waiting for him to bitch slap Michael Scott though. Would have made the show a little more watchable for me.

I just haven’t been able to get into The Office this season. Maybe getting the chance to stare at Stringer Bell/Charles Minor for a half hour every week will change all that.

Watch the episode here at the internet’s gift to the unemployed and broke…Hulu.

Click here to be blown away by Idris Elba’s British accent as he talks to NPR’s Terry Gross about how he got the role of Stringer Bell. I can tell Terry is as big a fan of The Wire as I am.
